Ottawa based self-taught digital artist, Robel Assefa, has been honing his skills in several forms of art for the past several years. He blended his passion for Afro-futurism with his enthusiasm for fashion and music bringing about a perfect composition of all three of them. As a free-spirited young man, he loves trying new things, constantly explores various disciplines to broaden his own artistic pursuits, to test himself and to keep on creating new works. Driven by his Ethiopian roots, he takes pride in bringing the world closer to the culture which he comes from. Robel expresses his talent for fashion in various magazines such as Commons and Sense, Pitch magazine. He has done music covers on Spotify for numerous artists such as Braxton Cook, Kilian and Dayo. As his favorite author Ytasha L. Womack says, “Empowering people to see themselves and their ideas in the future gives rise to innovators and freethinkers, all of whom can pull from the best of the past while navigating the sea of possibilities to create communities, culture, and a new, balanced world”, he believes that all artists should create more work order to share their message and their cultural heritage.
